An Adorable New Breed Of Dog That’s Too Good To Be Real!

We’re all familiar with the usual line-up of our favorite dog breeds like Collie, Lab, German Shepherd, or Retriever. However, we may not be aware of a new breed called Alaskan Klee Kai.

This new breed was developed in the 1970s for those who desired a dog that would be more of a companion than one that would round up sheep or protect their homes.

Siberian and Alaskan huskies were crossed with Schipperke and American Eskimo dogs to make this beautiful result. Alaskan Klee Kais are also referred to as a miniature Husky. Keep reading to learn more about this special breed!

Origins

In Oklahoma, an Alaskan lady in the mid-70’s was taken by a smaller version of a Siberian Husky. After returning to Alaska, she started to work on the new breed and gradually others also joined in the creation process. Within 15 years, she started to sell these new Alaskan Klee Kai dog breed but discontinued after about ten years.

Physical Attributes

Alaskan Klee Kais weigh between 10 and 15 pounds and are small to medium-sized, making them a perfect companion to cuddle with and even carry! Add to that their furry coat and you have the best little bundle of cuteness ever!

It’s hard to deny that  the Alaskan Klee Kais look almost too beautiful to be real. For one, every single one of these cuties has a distinct, unique look… no two of this breed look alike. They are furry and come in coats of black and white or combinations of grey and white or even red and white.

The northern heritage of this breed can be easily detected through these physical characteristics.

Their eyes could be a poet’s muse. Set slightly wide apart, the eyes of the Alaskan Klee Kais are light baby blue in color. Their expressive eyes are almost enough to speak directly to our soul.

Personality

The personality of the Alaskan Klee Kai is pretty easy to read. They might be shy and a bit nervous around children and strangers, but once they know they are around people they know, trust and love, they easily let their guard down. This is when they can be their sweet, loving selves. It’s best to socialize them when they are young.

This breed of dogs is loving and curious and will even stop on their walk to smell a rose! Their affectionate personality can win over anyone, on even the worst of days, making them a delight to have and to hold along with the rest of the family.

To boot, their stellar intelligence and trainability mean that they are ready to learn new tricks and play well with families with young children.

Being alert all the time makes the Alaskan Klee Kai a good guard too. It’s the best of both worlds – a guard dog that’s also excellent as a cuddly friend.

Grooming

The Alaskan Klee Kai has a heavy coat and needs some grooming. They are best taken for daily exercise in a fenced-in area.

Every dog has unique looks, traits, personality – which is why we love them so much.

We love our Dalmatians for their high-energy and unmistakable spots. Our Golden Retrievers are adorable because they are sweet and gentle caretakers. We trust German Shepherds because they are large, dependable guard dogs.

So if you’re looking for a dog that’s not only beautiful, but intelligent, good around kids, and TONS of fun, you just might want to consider the Alaskan Klee Kai. Not only do they look great, they are also good to hold, provide warmth and companionship, are great guard dogs, and can be trained easily.
